Polk, Allen Jones

Faculty minutes for February 24, 1842, confirm that Allen Jones Polk and Thomas G. Polk, both from Tennessee, were dismissed (4:43, UA). Though Allen Polk subsequently was readmitted, he was involved in additional misbehavior—blowing a trumpet during a "spree" and answering for absent individuals at prayers—and was dismissed again on September 20, 1842 (4:78, UA). Neither student received a degree. Both were members of the Dialectic Society and became planters.
